No respite from heat woes, farmer dies of sunstroke in Kerala

Though it was initially suspected to be a case of sunstroke, doctors and police later said she died of a cardiac arrest.As many as six people suffered sunburns in different parts of Palakkad. “It is too early to ascertain the cause of the death,” sub-inspector M G Vinod said, adding that red marks were seen around the neck of the deceased.In Palakkad, an MGNREGS worker Chinnammal, 75, of Nallur in Chittur taluk died after collapsing at her workplace. The authority also asked people to take necessary precautionary measures.On Saturday, Palakkad recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and Punalur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius.The India meteorological department, meanwhile, warned of likely thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds touching speeds of 30-40kmph in Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur and Wayanad districts on Sunday..
