Maternal and infant mortality rates in dist on decline: ZP chief

Kolhapur: Chief executive officer of the zilla parishad (ZP) Kunal Khemnar and other district authorities reviewed the status of the schemes implemented to bring down infant and maternal mortality rates on Saturday.Following this, Khemnar said the rate of maternal mortality and infant mortality is on decline. We have found that deformities in the foetus are one of the main reasons for infant mortality,” the CEO said. The state has set a target of bringing down maternal mortality numbers from 68 to 60 per one lakh women by 2020. Earlier in 2016-17, altogether 158 infants died.The infant mortality rate for the district is much lower than the state average of 19 deaths.
