11 booked after lsquoborrowerrsquo commits suicide

Kolhapur: The Sangli police has registered an offence against 11 people, including a woman, for abetment to suicide, on the basis of a suicide note which was left behind by the deceased, resident of Ghanand village in Aatpadi taluka of Sangli district.Police said Shivaji Tukaram Kadam (31) committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Sangli, behind Bharati Hospital, on March 5. He was being harassed frequently, Tukaram added.The suspects are from Sangli and the neighboring area of Hatkangale.They have been booked under abetment to suicide and also under the Maharashtra Money Lending (Regulation Act), 2014.The Sangli police has also appealed to public to approach them if they are being harassed by money lenders in a similar way.All 11 suspects were booked under relevant sections. Shivaji’s father, Tukaram, found a suicide note and he approached police.In his complaint, Tukaram said that his son was being harassed by a group of people for money, even though he had paid them with interest.According to the complainant, the suspects had filed several cases in the local court against Shivaji, which had caused him to feel depressed.They had filed the cases against Shivaji as the cheques, which he had given to them, were not honored.According to his father, Shivaji was beaten up by the suspects on several occasions and was threatened to be killed..
