Being bordered with Goa state, Kolhapur is an entry point for Indian made foreign liquor from Goa to Maharashtra.On Sunday, a team of excise officials arrested a man for allegedly smuggling liquor from Goa. The officials seized IMFL and an SUV, totally costing Rs 2.97 lakh, near Uma theatre here. Kolhapur: In view of the Lok Sabha elections, the excise department and police have started taking action against sale of illegal liquor in the district. The action was taken after the officials received a tip.On March 9, the Kolhapur police raided several places in Hatkanangle taluka and seized IMFL and country liquor worth Rs 3.34 lakh. Ganesh Patil, superintendent of police, excise department, Kolhapur said, “We have set up temporary check posts on major roads that are connecting the district with Goa and Karnataka.”.
