SUK registrar visits sericulture grounds

Registrar Vilas Nandavadekar during his visit said that sericulture farming has proved to be a boon for many families in the area. KOLHAPUR: Shivaji University , Kolhapur (SUK) registrar Vilas Nandavadekar visited Yalgud and surrounding areas, which are gaining ground for sericulture farming.The visit was organised in the wake of two sericulture courses introduced by the university earlier last month. In a month's harvest the farmers can earn somewhere between Rs 20,000 and Rs 3 lakh. In a year 6-7 such harvests can take place. He promised that the university will always be there to encourage and resolve queries from farmers.A D Jadhav, faculty member from the university's zoology department said that such interactions with farmers ensure that the latter are not exploited.He said that over 150 farmers from Yalgud area are dependent on sericulture farming..
