Kolkata | Wednesday | 19th September, 2018

Summary:

The fire had broken out at 2.35am on Sunday. In January 2008, firemen took more than 100 hours to put the fire out at Nandaram Market, which is situated less than 150 meters from Bagri Market. KOLKATA: At 3pm on Tuesday, the Bagri Market inferno became the second longest fire to rage anywhere in the city in recent memory even as firemen struggled to reach some of the pockets where the blaze continued to simmer. The market is stacked with inflammable goods, which are fuelling the fire. However there is so much of space constraint that our firefighters were unable to have access to all the nook and corner of the building to douse the fire completely. At the same time, another team of disaster management group personnel tried to enter the building from the Canning Street window by climbing through the windows, breaking open the grilles..
