Low pressure in Bay of Bengal may bring rain

CHENNAI: A depression is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and bring rainfall to coastal districts of Tamil Nadu , including rain-starved Chennai, starting Tuesday, weather experts have predicted.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a low pressure area that was lying over southeast Bay of Bengal has now moved towards southwest Bay of Bengal as a well-marked low pressure. "It is likely to concentrate into a depression in the next 24 hours," the weathermen forecast on Monday.According to weather bloggers, if the weather system further moves in the northwest direction, it is likely to bring very heavy rainfall to delta regions and moderate to heavy rainfall to Chennai and its suburbs. This system may not intensify into a cyclone.If the system brings heavy rainfall to Chennai and its suburbs, it may be the first good monsoon spell for this season since its onset in early November.Cyclone Gaja, which had been initially forecast to hit the coast near Chennai, moved further down south bringing heavy rainfall to seven districts of Tamil Nadu and wreaking havoc on its way to the Arabian Sea..
