Kolkata: Taking a strong stand against illegal building constructions in the city, Mayor Firhad Hakim said on Wednesday that he had fixed responsibility of officials and now sub-assistant and assistant engineers will have to lodge FIRs against illegal construction in their respective jurisdiction. "The Municipal Commissioner has already brought out a notification in which sub-assistant and assistant engineers will have to lodge FIRs against illegal construction in their respective jurisdiction. Following this the Commissioner with police assistance will go to the spot and pull down the illegal construction," Hakim said in reply to a query from Left Front councillor Ratna Roy Majumder regarding illegal construction at the monthly meeting on Wednesday. "We have already demolished some illegal construction following this procedure and have also acted tough against somebody resorting to such illegal act in connivance with any political party," Hakim said adding that illegal construction has become a 'chronic disease' in the city.
