Amid violent protests Mamata appeals for calm

Kolkata: Amid widespread protests and violent agitations across the state against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and NRC, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday appealed to the people to keep calm and use democratic means of protest. Banerjee's appeal which has been circulated by the state Information and Cultural Affairs department reads: "No NRC No CAB We Want United India." An appeal was sent out for the second time that read: "Once again I appeal to all not to resort to violence and disturb public order, tranquility and peace. The minister added: "If you really want to protest then join the rally to be headed by Mamata Banerjee on Monday."
