A group of servitors from Puri Jagannath Temple performed a yajna at the residence of chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Friday.

Mamata, who was present during the puja, shared the photos and videos on her Facebook page.

Mamata Banerjee, a staunch follower of Lord Jagannath, had invited the servitors and made arrangements for their transport from Puri.

“We left Puri on Wednesday evening and reached her residence the next morning.

The yagna started at 7am on Friday and ended at 5pm.

Our team consisted of seven pandits and five servitors of Jagannath Temple,” said Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, a senior servitor of the shrine’s Daitapati Nijog, a prominent association of servitors.

Mohapatra, who is also the badagrahi (chief protector of Lord Jagannath’s chariot during Rath Yatra), said the yajna was performed to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the ensuing elections as well as her victory.
“She sought the blessings of the deities and prayed for the well being of all.

Being her guru and family priest, I also prayed to the lord for her victory,” Mohapatra added.

The servitor said he has been performing puja at Mamata’s residence for the past several years.

“I could not perform the puja last year due to the Covid pandemic.

I had conducted several pujas at her home in the past,” Mohapatra said.
It must be noted, Mamata is a frequent visitor to Jagannath temple in Puri.
