The lawmakers who switched over to the BJP include Sonali Guha, Sital Sardar, Dipendu Biswas, Rabindranath Bhattacharya and Jatu Lahiri.

The MLAs joined the saffron party in presence of West Bengal party president Dilip Ghosh, BJP leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Mukul Roy in Kolkata.

Several TMC MLAs, an MP, and scores of its leaders have crossed over to the BJP in the recent month, giving the saffron party a fillip ahead of the Assembly polls.

Last week, veteran Trinamool Congress leader and former Union railway minister Dinesh Trivedi joined the BJP in the presence of BJP chief JP Nadda and Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan.

Elections to the 291-member Assembly seats in the state will be held in eight phases, from March 27 to April 29
