Landowners resent ‘forcible eviction’ for highway widening

Kozhikode | Sunday | 23rd September, 2018

Summary:

In the notices served to the landowners, the department has asked all to vacate the property within seven days. Countering the landowners’ claims, Revenue Department sources said the allegations related to the withholding of the compensation package were baseless and to mislead people who wish to cooperate with the project. Meanwhile, the families who received the notice claim that they are totally clueless about the compensation package and other details of the rehabilitation measures. The notice also says that the compensation fixed by the government has already been credited to their respective bank accounts. Leaders of an action committee coordinating the district-wide protest say the landowners are in need of at least two months’ time to hand over the property and that too after getting solid assurance regarding the compensation package..
