UP governor likens cops targeting criminals with Rama and Krishna

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik while addressing men in khaki on Thursday said that the police department is acting against criminals like demons were treated by Lord Rama and Krishna. A 13-second video clip of policemen having a brunch was widely circulated on social media platforms. "Rakshason ke saath jaisa vyavahar Prabhu Ram aur Shri Krishna ne kiya, waisa hi vyavahar UP police apradhiyon ke saath kar rahi hai (the way lord Ram and Krishna treated demons, UP police is behaving with criminals in the same fashion)," Naik said during his address at a function related to the police week.The presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath along with deputy CM Dinesh Sharma and group of ministers in the event presided by Ram Naik boosted the morale of policemen participating in the parade that was led by SSP Lucknow Deepak Kumar.“Setting a precedent, chief minister decided to attend the parade in the state this year,” said an elated Ram Naik.On the occasion, Ram Naik said that government needs to focus on three fronts – law and order, education and health – to turn the state into 'Uttam Pradesh'.The governor looked visibly upset with the delay caused in awarding medals to the brave policemen and asked DGP OP Singh to ensure that the medals are delivered to policemen within a year or two.A while back, Ram Naik had awarded gallantry medal to Prabha Vati, the widow of sub-inspector Panna Lal who died in an encounter with Maoists in 2001 in Mirzapur.Ram Naik lauded the efforts of the UP Police in improving conviction rate and handling important events efficiently.Meanwhile, some policemen were seen having snacks even when the national anthem was being played during the function..
