Lucknow: Constable arrested for extorting money from food stall owner

LUCKNOW: A police constable was arrested on Thursday night from Tundla railway station. SP ACO Rajiv Malhotra said Gautam was arrested soon after he accepted Rs 40,000 from the food stall owner Alok Gautam used to extort money from food stall owners doing business at Tundla railway station, a busy junction in Firozabad district of west UP.The GRP constable reached the stall of Veerpal Singh on Thursday evening. He in turn informed anti-corruption organisation (ACO), a unit of UP police in Lucknow, about the menace.A team was set up and Veerpal was arrested. While every month GRP staffer demanded Rs 1 lakh from Veerpal, this time he asked him to pay more money, saying that senior officers have increased demands these days and hence the amount had been revised.Veerpal expressed helplessness to pay the increased money..
