100th birthday of Rani Swaroop Kumari Bakshi celebrated

LUCKNOW: Avadh Girls' PG College, in association with Kadambini Club on Saturday celebrated the 100th birthday of Rani Swaroop Kumari Bakshi , former vice-president of the college managing committee and a noted writer, veteran politician, academician and philosopher. As a noted academician, Bakshi is credited for upgrading Nari Shiksha Niketan from a school to a degree college. Popularly known as ' Bakshi Didi ', she was felicitated by president of the college managing committee Zarine Viccajee, manager Prof Nishi Pandey, and AGDC principal Dr Upma Chaturvedi.In childhood, Bakshi was inspired by Jawaharlal Nehru Mahatma Gandhi and joined freedom struggle by the time she was 21. She was a four-time MLA of Lucknow East constituency and became a state cabinet minister. Even after she quit politics, she continued her social work..
