Heavy rain claims 6 lives, toll rises to 84

LUCKNOW: Six more deaths due to heavy rain and lightning were reported from the state on Monday, pushing the death toll in UP to 84 since July 26. There were also reports of damage to 21 properties. The total number of persons injured has risen to 84 while 44 livestock casualties and 470 incidents of property damage have been reported from across the state.“We received information of human casualties due to rain from Chitrakoot, Auraiya, Allahabad, Unnao, Amethi and Jaunpur on Monday. The department is making efforts to disburse compensation to affected families at the earliest,” said an official.The state government has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 59,100 to the injured and Rs 95,100 to those whose property is damaged.Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the district administration to ensure that weather alerts are issued as soon as information from the Met department is received.Chief secretary Anup Chandra Pandey on Monday directed officials to keep an eye on water level of various rivers and undertake spot visits to ensure that no untoward incidents take place..
