Five killed as New Farakka Express derails near Rae Bareli

HARCHANDPUR (RAE BARELI): Nine coaches and the engine of New Delhi-bound 14003 New Farakka Express derailed at Harchandpur railway station near Rae Bareli early Wednesday, killing at least five people and injuring 39 others, including seven who were referred to Lucknow for treatment. The rest of the injured were admitted to a community health centre (CHC) and Rae Bareli district hospital. While 28 injured were send to CHC, 11 were sent to district hospital at Rae Bareli, officials said.While 19 people were discharged from CHC soon after first aid, seven were referred to Lucknow as they were seriously injured. The injured were sent to the nearby community health centre around 2km from the accident site. Railway officials said nine coaches next to the engine, including an SLR, two general coaches and sleeper coaches from S6 to S11 derailed near Harchandpur station at 6.10am.While the SLR and the two general coaches along with three sleeper (S9 to S11) coaches were badly damaged, the other sleeper coaches were derailed..
