ABVU to oversee all medical, dental colleges in UP

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday cleared decks for setting up Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University that will serve as an umbrella institution for all medical and dental colleges in the state To pave way for it, the state cabinet cleared the Uttar Pradesh State Medical University ordinance 2018. Officials claimed the move aims at raising the quality of medical education in the state.“The university would be based on the lines of APJ Abdul Kalam University, which is an umbrella institution for engineering colleges affiliated to it,” said a senior officer in the medical education department.He added that 35 government and private medical colleges along with 17 dental colleges will come under the ambit of Atal university. All upcoming medical or dental colleges will also come under it.In another decision, the cabinet cleared a proposal to set up a staellite campus of King George’s Medical University in Balrampur district.The satellite campus had been proposed as a tribute to PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had entered electoral politics from Balrampur.Besides this, Balrampur scores very low in health facilities..
