Lucknow | Thursday | 13th December, 2018

Summary:

: Jolted by defeat three prominent states in the Hindi heartland, BJP has moved into fire fighting mode with party chief Amit Shah calling all party state presidents and organisational secretaries, including from UP, to New Delhi on Thursday for a meeting. In fact, BJP’s vote share in MP was 41%, marginally higher than 40.9% of Congress. In Rajasthan, BJP’s vote share was 38.8%, which was marginally lesser than Congress which got 39.3% votes, even though Congress won 26 more seats than BJP. While the agenda of meeting has not been disclosed, sources said that focus will be on UP from where BJP gained maximum number of seats in 2014. Shah is likely to take feedback from state units about the prevailing political situation in the wake of opposition parties joining hands.“The win in three states may have given a boost to Congress, but our vote share remained more or less intact,” said a senior UP BJP leader who campaigned in Madhya Pradesh..
