Man arrested with counterfeit notes in Varanasi

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) sleuths arrested a man in Shivpur area of Varanasi on Tuesday and recovered 260 fake counterfeit notes in denomination of Rs 2000 from him. He was part of a network supplying fake notes to various parts of India, said UP ATS officials.IG (ATS) Asim Arun said that Babu was used as a carrier to transfer fake notes from Malda in West Bengal to Pune in Maharashtra. On January 1 also, the ATS had nabbed one Naveen Yadav with 400 fake notes in denominations of Rs 2000.The accused, Shyam Babu of Patna , was nabbed from outside Deen Dayal junction in Chandauli following a tip-off. “We have zeroed in on the person to whom the fake notes were to be handed over,” he added.The fake notes recovered from Babu’s possession don’t seem to be of a very fine quality and prima facie seem to be manufactured in West Bengal.Babu also confessed that fake notes were in circulation in local markets of Pune and that he got fake notes worth Rs 1 lakh after paying only Rs 35,000..
