UP: Kanha cow shelter to house 500 cattle

AGRA: The animal husbandry department has decided to build a cow shelter , “Kanha”, in Kheragarh by the end of the current financial year. To put a tab on crop loss caused by stray cattle, district magistrate NG Ravi Kumar on Friday directed the animal husbandry department to complete development of the cow shelter in time.Chief veterinary officer AK Doneria said, “Development of the cow shelter has started in Kheragarh block. The facility will be developed on 2.176 hectare of land and will shelter 500 stray cattle.The state government has allotted Rs 1.20 crore for the project in Kheragarh, said officials. However, the government said that the shelter could house only 800 cattle, instead of the 2000 proposed by the civic body.The animal husbandry department and the Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) has developed a shelter for stray bulls at Bainpur under Sikandra police station. The facility will put a tab on cattle causing losses to farmers by damaging their crops.”Last month, the state government had approved the Agra Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) proposal to build another shelter for stray cattle, “Kanha Van”, on 12 hectares of municipal land at Naraich in trans Yamuna locality..
