UP: Ram Naik seeks UGC reply on teachers' quota

LUCKNOW: Governor Ram Naik has sought a clarification from UGC chairman on the promulgation of an ordinance by the central government on the new quota system in the recruitment of teachers in central and state universities.Naik sent a letter to University Grants Commission chairman DP Singh on Tuesday.Naik has also asked UGC chairman DP Singh to explain whether universities can recruit while the code of conduct is in effect as that would further delay the appointment process for nearly three months .The ordinance was issued last week before the code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections came into effect.Sources in Raj Bhawan told TOI that in wake of controversy over the quota issue in universities across the country, more than 5,000 posts teaching post had been lying vacant for over six months..
