LUCKNOW: As many as three persons were killed after an oxygen cylinder burst at an oxygen gas filling station located on Dewa road in Chinhat police station area of Lucknow on Wednesday.

The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained.

Lucknow police commissioner, DK Thakur, who was the first to reach the spot confirmed TOI about three deaths.

He also said that prima facie it appears that a jumbo oxygen cylinder of one of the kin of patients who had come to refill seemed to have been faulty, which led to the blast.

The blast took place around 2.45 pm and caused a panic and stampede to those who were standing in the queue for getting their cylinders refilled, said the police.

The neighbours informed UP 112 after which a police team and fire unit rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.

“Identities of bodies could not be recognised as they were ripped apart due to the impact of the blast,” said SHO, Chinhat, Dhananjay Pandey.

Pandey also said that the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals and were out of danger.
