Lucknow: Dip in Covid cases springs hope but it’s still dark tunnel for patients

Lucknow | Friday | 7th May, 2021

Summary:

LUCKNOW: Even though the daily Covid-19 infections dropped on Thursday, the people’s problems continued as many had to struggle for basic things from oxygen refill to a critical care bed, testing and lifesaving drugs.

Also, despite instructions from senior district administration officers, the chief medical officer’s office was not able to make several dedicated Covid hospitals create their accounts on the online dashboard — Integrated Covid command centre - Hospital-Wise Bed Availability (https://beds.dgmhup-covid19.in/EN/covid19bedtrack) — meant for the people to track the availability of beds.

Of the 72 covid facilities, 66 had uploaded their bed status by 10pm on Thursday.

Akhilesh Bansal, a businessman from Daliganj, desperately searched for an oxygen supported bed for his 55-year-old sister-in-law.
“I called five private hospitals between 1-3 pm and all said that they had no beds though the dashboard stated that they had some.

Finally, I got a bed allotted through Integrated Covid Command Centre on the intervention of a senior district administrative officer,” he said.

Special officer in-charge Covid relief in Lucknow, Roshan Jacob, found that laxity in the functioning of Rapid Response Teams (RRT).

The Covid centre called 242 home quarantined patients to inquire about their well-being of whom 42 said that neither any RRT contacted them, nor they were given any medicines.
