CBI quizzes roadside vendors who spotted Anurag Tewari's body

LUCKNOW: A CBI team on Friday questioned seven roadside vendors who had spotted the body of IAS officer Anurag Tewari outside Meerabai Marg guest house on May 17. The 2007 batch IAS officer from Karnataka cadre was discovered dead in mysterious circumstances outside the guest house. On Saturday, the agency has summoned the panel of doctors who had conducted the autopsy and mentioned asphyxia as the cause of Anurag's death in the postmortem report. The vendors were called for questioning 11am onwards and were grilled separately in three different rooms.The team is also trying to get in touch with the call centre employee who had alerted UP-100 at 5.32am on the fateful day. The youth told the investigating agency to go through the statement he had given to the special investigation team of Lucknow police before cross-examining him.Meanwhile, tea and food stall vendors Balakram, Sunil, Sheru, Pandit, Chotu, Roopchandra and Sunil, who were present around the corpse, told sleuths they did not see the officer stepping out of the guest house.Lucknow police was also unable to find a witness who had seen Anurag on the stretch before he was found dead..
