PPCB lauds Sikh clergy’s decision of curtailing noise at gurdwaras

The Supreme Court has ordered all not to use any loudspeakers or noise polluting organs during these night hours.PPCB teams conducted the measurement of noise pollution level around the various religious places in a scientific way during the time period of 4.00 am to 6.00 am and found that the noise levels were two to three times higher than the prescribed limit. PATIALA: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) had welcomed the decision of the Sikh high priests at the Akal Takht on June 14 directing all gurdwaras to keep the sound of the speakers limited to their premises.PPCB chairman K S Pannu said the decision of the five priests was praiseworthy and every follower should honour it by persuading their local gurdwara management committee to follow the edict.Pannu said higher levels of noise have adverse effects on the human health causing fatigue of the hearing or auditory sense organs, deafness, annoyance, hypertension, change of the rate of heartbeat, vertigo and cardiovascular problems.He also made an appeal to all gurdwara, temples and mosques managing committees and their employees to act with legal, religious and moral responsibilities and take effective steps to keep the noise pollution under control at religious places.As per the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, the permissible noise limits during night hours (10.00 pm to 6.00 am) in residential areas is 45 dB..
