Ramoowalia jumps onto anti-drugs bandwagon to re-enter Punjab politics

LUDHIANA: Former Union minister and present Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Uttar Pradesh, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia , who has been trying to make a full fledged comeback in the state politics before the next year’s Lok Sabha elections, has also jumped onto the anti drugs bandwagon.Ramoowalia on Thursday organised a meeting cum rally of old cadres from his 'Lok Bhalai Party' at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan here and spoke on the issue of drug addiction and also suggested slew of unique measures to the state government.In addition to demanding booking of the drug traffickers under laws of treason, he urged state government to approach the religious leaders and dera heads to promote awareness against drugs. He said that he had already written a letter to chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and asked him to urge the dera heads to start adopting addicts and help them in giving up drugs.Ramoowalia also claimed that he had already started working in the state for uprooting the drugs problem and he had approached several dera heads, who had given him a positive response to tackle this issue.He also said that he was soon going to form 100 teams of 10 persons each, who would visit 10 villages to work for eradication of problems in the villages.Hinting that he was open to alliance with political parties in the state, Ramoowalia, who is presently associated with UP’s Samajwadi Party, refrained from attacking both Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress and said that he had no fight with any party or government.He also said, “The platform of Lok Bhalai Party built by me is non-political and it is only for social work..
