6 nabbed, 35 booked for attacking Sukhbir’s cavalcade

PATIALA: Sangrur police have arrested six and booked around 35 unidentified persons under various sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, for attacking the cavalcade of SAD president Sukhbir Badal.The cavalcade of Sukhbir was attacked on Thursday afternoon when he was on his way to hold a meeting with party workers at Gurdwara Nankiana Sahib in the district. Some men, including baptized Sikhs, allegedly attached with radical Sikh groups, had attacked Sukhbir’s cavalcade with sticks while some others hurled shoes at him.The police claimed that the accused were arrested after they were identified in the videos and the pictures clicked by mediapersons or supporters of Akali Dal. We will produce those arrested in the court on Sunday.” He added that it seemed that the accused did not have any alliance with any radical or political outfit but a further probe in the matter was on. The case was registered at Sangrur Sadar police station under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public function) of the IPC on the complaint of Vinarjit Singh of Sunam.The police revealed that among those arrested are Sukhwinder Singh and Devinder Singh of Mangwal village, Manjit Singh of Saron village, Gurjant Singh of Balian village and Gurmukh Singh.Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg said that, “The case was registered and six persons were nabbed while the hunt for others is on..
