LUDHIANA: Initiating a drive against tax evasion by restaurants and bars, a 15-member team of the state taxation department from Ludhiana, Patiala, and Moga conducted a search in a prominent restaurant-cum-bar located in a shopping mall in Moga. Other officials of the state taxation department who were part of the search included STOs HS Dimple, BS Dhillon, Shakuntla Devi, Piara Singh, Manmohan Singh , and Navjit Singh. The group also owns multiplexes within the mall.According to sources, the action led to unearthing of tax evasion to the tune of several lakhs by the group, and investigations were still on until the filing of this report. The joint is owned by the same group that owns the shopping mall in which it was located. In our action, we found incriminating evidence of tax evasion by this group, but the exact amount of the tax evaded will be clear once our investigation is over.”Sources said the search was carried out under the instructions of deputy excise and taxation commissioner (Ferozepur) HPS Ghotra..
