4, 411 LPU students dance their way to world record

JALANDHAR: Dancing to the beats of ‘dhols’ and ‘chimtas’, students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) set a Guinness World Record for the largest bhangra performance on Thursday. They also celebrated Punjab Day.Around 4,411 national and international students participated in the record-setting performance and 11 Punjabi folk musical instruments were used. For streamlining the mammoth event, 35 cultural coordinators from different departments and student organizations of the university, actively participated along with over 100 student volunteers.As many as 33 boxes for diverse participants were carved out on the floor of the Baldev Raj Mittal Unipolis auditorium on the university campus.LPU chancellor Ashok Mittal said the event created a history on the campus where participants upheld the Punjabi culture and spirit.Chief coordinator of the event and head of the World Bhangra Association (England) Tarlochan Singh Bilgha said the event was organised to promote Punjabi culture on the occasion of the Punjab Day..
