JALANDHAR: Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh G K has said that every Sikh, as prescribed by the Gurdwara Act, should be allowed to contest the election to the religious body.His statement has come after two members of a committee formed by the Delhi government to suggest changes to the act, said that they would seek barring of political parties, and their office-bearers and leaders, from contesting the election. “We shall be demanding that any political party registered with Election Commission of India as a secular party or its office bearers or the MLAs, MPs, municipal councillors should not be eligible for contesting DSGMC polls,” Sarna had said.However, G K, who heads the Delhi unit of SAD, which is registered with the Election Commission as a secular party, said there should be no bar when it came to political affiliations. GK revealed that the DSGMC had already passed resolutions for seeking certain important amendments, including constitution of gurdwara judicial board on the lines of Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission under Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925, for SGPC; anti-defection law, direct election of president for a four-year term, complete revision of voters’ list with photographs, delimitation, inclusion of the fifth takht, Damdama Sahib, in the list and its jathedar as member, as earlier only four takhts were included in the act..
