PATIALA: The project for a new modern abattoir to be set up in the outskirts of the city is still hanging fire with the government having no plans to shift the slaughterhouses and give relief to the local residents. The project was earlier tabled and presented by the civic body under the SAD-BJP rule, but it failed to take off. All birds and animals are supposed to be slaughtered in accordance with the SC rules. While, 60% of this amount was to be chipped in by the Centre and 40% was to be borne by the state government . At present, there are around 150 small and big abattoirs running in the royal city, besides some others operating illegally.The local civic body had recently sent a detailed project report to the government, but the same was not considered..
