Rail commuters hit by farmers’ protest on tracks

Numerous major long route trains that were affected included Jammu-New Delhi ( Jammu Mail Express), Jammu-Rishikesh (Hemkunt Express), and Jammu-Delhi Sarai Rohilla ( Duronto Express ). The civil administration of Pathankot district, and other security forces of the railways were rushed to the spot after getting information about rail traffic being disrupted. So far, almost all long route trains running between New Delhi-Ludhiana-Jammu Tawi and adjoining districts were stopped at some stations.”He added: “Up to now, 17 long route trains were cancelled by the Ferozepur Division in view of the protest staged by the farmers’ union. Railway sources informed: “One of the major reasons behind the protest of farmers is the state government’s delay in purchasing sugarcane from the grain market for the past several days.” As per information of the railway sources, farmers started their agitation around 1pm on the Jammu rail route, about 80km from Ludhiana.With the blockage of the route, passengers waiting to travel to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu-bound trains got stuck in the city station..
