PATIALA: Hours after ADGP Jails Rohit Chaudhary visited the Nabha Maximum Security Jail on Wednesday afternoon to hand over the promotion letters to the jail staffers and revive jail security, a 50-year-old inmate undergoing 10-year imprisonment in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) case gave jail security the slip.Inmate Jeet Singh, who was working in the farms at the rare end of the jail was found missing during the evening count of the inmates, sending the jail authorities in a tizzy. Out of these Kashmir Singh is still at large, while Vicky Gounder was killed in a police encounter and Mintoo, who was arrested from Delhi later died at the Patiala Central Jail. It is being believed that Jeet Singh scaled the jail’s boundary walls and escaped into the Mehas wildlife sanctuary , which is located adjacent to the Maximum Security Jail.Surprisingly, Jeet’s jail term was coming to an end next year and he was also to leave for a 42-day off on January 1 to visit his relatives. The remaining accused were also arrested along with 36 facilitator and conspirators of the jailbreak by the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) of the state police.DSP Nabha Devinder Attri said police teams had carried out a number of raids till Thursday evening, but Jeet Singh continued to be elusive. Jail superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar said Jeet had been granted parole on a number of occasions which he never jumped. He had been shifted to the Nabha Maximum Security Jail from New District Jail about three months back and according to the jail staffers he would spend most of his time performing sewa at the Jail Gurudwara.Soon after it was confirmed that Jeet Singh was missing, the jail authorities reported the matter to the local police which registered a case against the inmate and also sent out teams to track him down..
