Drug overdose death: Cops book victim’s friend, woman

LUDHIANA: Three days after a suspected drug overdose death of a youth on a vacant plot in Dugri area, the police here on Saturday booked two persons, including the victim’s friend, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The police have, meanwhile, found a syringe lying near the body of the deceased.In his police complaint, Ajaib Singh of Mullanpur, father of Mandeep Singh, the victim, said that his son and Davinder Singh were friends and his son used to work for Davinder and install CCTV cameras. He added that on Thursday, his son had left home to install CCTV cameras.The complainant further said that on Thursday, when Mandeep did not return home till late evening, he called him on his mobile phone a number of times but he did not take his calls. He added that later he came to know that his son had died of alleged drug overdose and his body had been recovered from a plot.Earlier, the police had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC but on the statement of the father of the deceased the Dugri police have now booked Davinder Singh and an unidentified woman of Sidhwan Bet area, who is suspected to have allegedly supply drugs to the duo, under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)..
