Contract teachers to boycott 'Padho Punjab' project till demands met

PATIALA: The protesting contractual teachers who faced water cannons and were cane-charged by police during their protest march on Sunday have now decided to boycott the state government Padho Punjab Padhaao Punjab Project . The teachers claimed that the boycott will continue until the government regularises them. However, police denied having registered any case against the teachers.Under the Padho Punjab, Padhaao Punjab Project, primary school teachers are to be trained such that they can teach students how to speak and write in Punjabi. Around 10 police officials, including superintendent of police (headquarters), were also injured after the clash between the protesting teachers and the police. The teachers claimed that they would burn state government's effigy at the district level for not paying any heed to their demands.They alleged that Krishan Kumar misinformed the government that 94% teachers are ready to accept the offer, whereas this was far away from the truth.Meanwhile, police booked around 30 protesting teachers, including some union leaders, under sections of IPC during their protest on Sunday..
