Sikh groups offer shelter to students

JALANDHAR: Several Punjabi netizens and Sikh groups have started offering to shelter Kashmiri students and appeals are also being issued to shelter them at Gurudwaras. The group has provided three helplines numbers for Ambala, Chanidgarh and Dehradun.Alliance of Sikh Organizations has also circulated a message on Facebook as well as on WhatsApp providing contact numbers stating that any Kashmiri student could contact them for help. While some Kashimrii students have already been given shelter at Gurudwara Singh Shaheedan Sohana, Chandigarh, Sikh groups have said that they are ready to help the Kashmiri students if they face any trouble.While no adverse reaction has been reported against Kashmiri students in Punjab, barring a speech made by a Congress leader in Rahon town in district Nawanshahr who asked people to stop helping Kashmiris and throw them out from their cities, Punjabi netizens have even provided their phone numbers on their Facebook posts offering help to shelter.There has been a strong voice against any hate crime against Kashmiri students among Punjabi netizens.Prominent Sikh NGO Khalsa Aid, which has been rushing aid to those stranded during disasters across the country and in other countries, has already circulated a message to help Kashmiri students..
