Summary:

Our CorrespondentLudhiana, September 17Amidst mild resistance, officials of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) today carried out a demolition drive in Jamalpur Colony, Dhandari Kalan, Phase IV, and pulled down 12 shops constructed on government land. The drive was a part of the comprehensive encroachment-removal campaign launched by GLADA to remove all encroachments as per the list submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a contempt petition which would come up for haring on September 26. The GLADA Estate Officer, Sonam Chaudhry, said barring a religious place and a few other structures for which ownership details were awaited from the Punjab Waqf Board, all other encroachments on government land (mentioned in the contempt petition) had now been cleared. She maintained that the issue of three other encroachments which were made at the GLADA colonies handed over to the Municipal Corporation, and the MC was supposed to remove those encroachments, would be amicably settled between the two bodies..
