Goods train wagon derails, rail traffic hit

Our CorrespondentLudhiana, November 19A major disaster was averted here this morning when a wagon of an Amritsar-bound goods train derailed near Domoria Bridge, a few hundred metres from the railway station. Several trains coming towards Ludhiana from Amritsar and Jammu side were stopped at the outer signal while those about to depart were held up at the railway station itself. Railway officials reached the spot on receiving the information and work was taken in hand to put the wagon back on the rails and to clear the line for traffic which was completed by late evening. Due to obstruction on the track, several mail, express and superfast trains held up at the outer signal or at the railway station were delayed by half an hour to 2.30 hrs. It was officially stated that among the trains delayed due to derailment were pairs of 12029/30 New Delhi-Amritsar-New Delhi Swarn Shatabdi Express, 12497/98 New Delhi-Amritsar-New Delhi Shan-e-Punjab Express, 22479/80 New Delhi-Lohian Khas-New Delhi Sarbat da Bhala Intercity Express, 14505/06 Nangal Dam-Amaritsar-Nangal Dam Express along with 12926 Amritsar-Bandra Terminus Pashchim Express and 15708 Amritsar-Katihar Amrapali Express..
