Our CorrespondentLudhiana, December 5In an demolition drive which had lasted for several hours, the Northern Railway authorities removed around 150 jhuggis and other unauthorised structures from railway colonies 5 and 12 on the Civil Lines side of the railway station. A few condemned railway quarters, termed ‘unsafe’, were also pulled down during the operation, said railway officials. A team of the officials of engineering wing of the Railways, accompanied by police force, supervised the demolition operation and took possession of railway land under unauthorised occupation in the two railway colonies. An official of the Railways said notices for demolition of jhuggis/structures and removal of encroachments were served on the occupants in advance as per law.
