NIA raids 4 places in Madhurai over FB post propagating ISIS ideology

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a search operation at four places in Madurai on Sunday during the investigation of objectionable posts on a Facebook page.

NIA recovered objectionable commercials and documents with 16 digital devices.

NIA is investigating the Facebook page "Thoonga Vizhigal Rendu in Kazimar Street".

The name of the page literally means `two eyes in Kazimar Street that never sleep`.

Officials said the case pertained to uploading of some incriminating posts on Facebook by Mohammad Iqbal, a resident of Madurai, who was arrested in December.

The investigation revealed that these objectionable posts on the Facebook page were uploaded to defame a particular community.

Iqbal, a resident of Kazimar Street, was running a cellphone repair shop when he was arrested.

The NIA is investigating whether Iqbal was promoting the ideology of terrorist organization the Islamic State and the Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT).

The NIA conducted a search operation in Kazimar Street in Madurai, K Pudur, Pethaniyapuram and Mehboob Palayam.

During this time 16 digital devices were seized.
