The hospital staff asked the relatives to search for the next of kin among the piles of bodies of the Covid victims.

Several families have claimed that the hospital staff had asked them to enter the morgue, conduct searches and collect bodies of their relatives.

The incident came to light when relatives of a 47-year-old man from Theni died of Covid-19 and his relatives went to claim the body.

The family was directed by the morgue staff to go find the body and take it away.

The families were shocked to see many bodies left in heaps covered in blue plastic bags.

Then they had to go to see the dead bodies of his family members.

Later pictures and videos of the incident surfaced on social media.

Responding to the allegations, Balaji Nathan, Dean of Theni Government Hospital, said that the names of three officials were cropping up in the incident.
