Liquor shops were opened in Tamil Nadu`s Madurai district on Monday.

Earlier on Friday, The state government had announced that salons, parks and state-run liquor shops will reopen on June 14 in 27 districts after a gap of thirty-five days in the state and extended the lockdown till the morning of June 21.

Religious and tourist places will remain closed and no public or private bus service will be started during the extended period of lockdown.

However, when the government announced the opening of Tasmac liquor shops from Friday but did not allow the opening of tea shops, the government`s move was widely criticized on social media.

Except for the 11 districts with the highest Covid-19 cases, the new relaxation will be applicable in the remaining 27 districts.

These include Chennai and its surrounding districts.

The eleven exempted districts are Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai.
