The protest was triggered by a ruling of Madras High Court on April 18, which overrode the method used in Tamil Nadu for calculation of incentive marks for doctors working in government hospitals with the method imposed by Medical Council of India. Traffic on the busy Panagal Road was briefly affected in the afternoon as the protestors came out of the hospital and raised slogans demanding the safeguarding of the reservation.
