Venkatesh on Saturday on acquiring land for laying new railway line between Thoothukudi and Madurai via Aruppukottai. Executive Engineer, Madurai Division, Chandru, Assistant Executive Engineer, Dhanaraman, and Assistant Engineer, Muthukumar, were present. Acquisition of 71 hectares of private land and 3.77 hectares of government land has to be done in Saaminaththam, Sillaanaththam, Vaalasamudhram, South Veerapandiapuram, Mela Marudhur and Vadakku Silukkanpatti villages for the implementation of the first phase of the project. After covering the Meelavittaan – Mela Marudhur stretch in the first phase, railway track will be laid between Mela Marudhur and Aruppukottai in the second phase.
