Protests persist as over 600 fishermen yet to be traced

The agitators demanded ?20 lakh each as compensation for the families of the deceased fishermen, and called on the government to release a list of the missing fishermen who have been rescued so far. At Idinthakarai, a coastal village in Tirunelveli district, fisher folk took out a silent procession demanding that missing fishermen be rescued at the earliest. His comments came even as fisherfolk in the coastal district continued to protest, demanding that the government expedite its efforts to locate and bring the missing fishermen to safety. Currently, 117 fishermen are on safe shores in States such as Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Islands.
