Elephant calves death: Forest department issues show cause notices; two accused absconding

A fortnight back, Hassan forest officials had traced the train, its loco pilot and co-pilot responsible for the deaths of the elephant calves. MANGALURU: The Hassan Forest Department officials issued show cause notices to pilot and loco pilot of a goods train that mowed down two male elephant calves deep inside the Shiradi Ghat forest area.The two loco pilots responsible for the deaths are absconding. The Sakleshpur Range Forest Officer was informed by the Yedakumeri station manager regarding the deaths. While the first one was found near the tracks almost on the bridge, the second one was found a little far away. ``We will able to charge-sheet them once we get their statements,’’ said Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Shivaram Babu M.The two accused belong to Mysuru Division of Railways..
