Summary:

MANIPAL: Faced with excess milk production , Dakshina Kannada Milk Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd (DKMUL) has announced a bonanza for its consumers. On July 12, consumers will get 180ml of Trupti long shelf life milk with every 500ml, one and six litre pack of milk that it sells. “While KMF left it to the individual milk unions to deal with the surplus production including providing additional 100 ml of milk at no extra cost, we have been pro-active in this regard,” he said, adding the consumers could use the Trupti milk sold in tetra packs at their convenience later. DKMUL has set aside Rs 62 lakh to implement this pro-consumer scheme and nearly 1.2-lakh litres of surplus milk will be given to consumers at no extra cost.Raviraj Hegde, president of the union told media here on Wednesday that DKMUL at present is comparatively better placed in terms of handling the surplus compared to the other milk unions in the state. Incidentally, the Karnataka Milk Federation too had toyed with the idea of providing 100 ml of milk extra with each packet of milk of various capacities that it marketed to tide over the excess production in what has been an otherwise flush season.B V Sathyanarayana, managing director, DKMUL said the union with jurisdiction over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, is first off the blocks to implement this pro-consumer scheme..
