Whirlwind uproots trees, electric poles; disrupts power supply in Dakshina Kannada

In Mangaluru, tree fall resulted in at least 15 electric poles getting damaged in Baikampady, Valencia, Mulihitlu and Maroli areas of the city. Sullia Taluk received the highest rainfall of 51 mm, with Mangaluru taluk receiving the least at 8mm of rainfall. In Savanoor 11Kv line was not operational and will be restored by Monday evening said Mescom sources.On Sunday, several electric poles were damaged due to tree fall at Panjala, Narimogeru Panchayat of Puttur Taluk. MANGALURU: Whirlwinds, which blew across the Dakshina Kannada district since Sunday morning, created havoc at many places while damaging several electric poles due to tree fall.Mescom officials estimated that on Sunday alone 315 electric poles in the district were damaged and Puttur taluk bore the brunt with more than 200 electric poles being damaged, cutting off supply to individual homes in rural villages. This led to disruption of power in Panjala, Mothethadka, Narimogeru, Kuriya, Mundooru, Ammunja and surrounding areas..
