7,444 illegal buildings under ‘double tax’ in city: Commissioner

Those who built flats, commercial complexes and houses violating norms have been applying for door numbers paying double tax for their properties under the provision. As a result, the number of such buildings with violations has increased considerably in the city. Section 112C mandates ULBs to levy penalty on unlawful buildings and they are also allotted door numbers, which facilitates building owners to obtain power and water. Corporators Vijaya Kumar and Rajesh from BJP, too, questioned the officials for failing to collect double tax from violators.Opposition leader Premanand Shetty said commercial complexes and apartments have been misusing the provision.
